Soccer Semi-Final Victory.

We played St Ultan’s, Cherry Orchard in the League semi-final this week and managed to avenge our defeat by the same opposition in the Pegasus Cup by coming away with a 2-1 win. It was a fantastic performance by the whole squad and every player was superb. Jake and Darragh were our scorers on the day and we would have been further ahead but for some great saves from Igor and a dubious offside call. Our excellent opponents hit back early in the second half and it took a huge effort to prevent them from grabbing an equaliser. We now await the outcome of the other semifinal to see who we will meet in the final. Well done boys; you were all heroes and the whole school is very proud of your efforts and the admirable way you conduct yourselves on the pitch.

Symbols Hunt

Junior and Senior Infants and some of their parents went on a symbol hunt with Ms. Sherry – we found stop signs, children crossing signs and even place name signs. We had great fun ticking off the signs we saw on our clipboards!

Soccer Update: League Champions!

We played our final two league games this week. Our first game was against St. Nicholas of Myra School and despite an even first half we managed to pull away in the second half and won 8-2 in the end. The scorers were Igor, Evan, Jake, Darragh and Dylan with Aaron Bewley and Darragh Ryan having outstanding games. Sean MacPeake made his debut for the team in the second half.

Our final league game was against our local rivals, St. Joseph’s from East Wall where the league title was at stake. Joey’s needed to win the match but we just needed to draw. The match turned out to be a cracking game with little between the teams. On a very blustery day in Ringsend Park we scored first through Jake and then Igor rattled the underside of the bar with a rocket-like free-kick. Joey’s danger-man, their number 8, equalised with a high shot from the edge of our box and it was level at halftime. Igor put us in front again with a tremendous solo goal after a nice pass from Jake. Igor dribbled past a couple of defenders and the goalkeeper before backheeling the ball into the net from a tight angle. What a goal! Again Joey’s equalised, this time from a freekick which sailed high over Cian and into the roof of the net. Ringsend continued to attack and Dylan rifled an unstoppable half-volley into the net from the edge of their box to put us 3-2 up. Joey’s, however, refused to throw in the towel and continued to press for another goal. It looked like they had grabbed an equaliser in stoppage time only for Rhys to produce an unbelievable goal-line clearance after Cian had saved from their striker. Then came the final whistle and a touchline invasion of jubilant supporters. Well done to all of the players on a fantastic win against a very good St. Joseph’s team. All of the players were heroes on the day but special mention must go to Aaron, Darragh and Tymek for outstanding play throughout. All of our subs got some game time too and young Tadhg Healy played his first game for the school team.

We are now through to the semi-finals of the League Competition where we could face St. Ultan’s again. They beat us 4-1 in the Pegasus Cup so we will be looking to avenge that defeat this time around.
