We are the City Division 4 champions after an absorbing 2-0 extratime victory over Walkinstown today in Richmond Park, Inchicore, the home of St Patrick’s Athletic.
It was a very close game with both defences doing very well to keep attackers at bay. Evanand John both hit the woodwork and Oisin came close to winning it late on in normal time but we survived a few scares too including an offside goal which was disallowed by the linesman.
Both teams were exhausted but managed to continue to play great football in added time. Goals from Evan and John meant we avoided penalties and so after three successive final defeats, we finally got our hands on the cup.
Well done to all 17 players. Sean, Dylan, Paul, Oisin, Tadhg, Oisin, Adam, Darragh, Filip, Evan, John, Joshua, Joel, Josh, Luke, Lee and Kyle.
There were excellent performances by all of our players. Standout displays came from Sean, Paul, Darragh, Adam, Oisin, Evan and John with Dylan rightly being chosen by the officials as Man of the Match.
Well done boys.
It was the turn of Mr.Fahy’s and Mr.O’Rourke’s classes to go on a hike this week. The boys walked from Crone Wood to Glensoulan and had a beautiful view of Powerscourt Waterfall, Ireland’s highest waterfall. The senior boys who came along on the hike to help proudly pointed out Djouce which they climbed the week before. The boys returned over the side of Maulin to Crone Wood.
Mr Booth took Mr Lane’s and Ms Purcell’s classes on a hike last week. We walked, climbed, ran, fell and huffed our way to rough terrain and steep gradients for 90 minutes before reaching the summit of Djouce at lunchtime where we took a welcome break.
We then descended the other slope of Djouce before making our way back to the bus via a forest track. Everyone had a brilliant if tiring day out. The weather was glorious and the fantastic scenery will live long in the memory for everyone who went.
Our school soccer team has reached the Division 4 Final this year. We will probably be up against St. Laurence O’Toole’s in the final if, as expected, they win their semi-final. We have already lost twice to them in our group so it will take a huge effort to beat them but we will try our best.
We played 6 group games with home and away fixtures against Harold’s Cross, John Scottus and St. Laurence O’Tooles. We won 4 games and lost twice to Laurence O’Tooles. The first defeat was a heavy one but we ran them close in the second game. Having come second in our group we qualified for the quarter-finals where we beat St Dominic’s, Tallaght away 6-1. We then played an away semi-final against a very physical Ballymun team where we managed to escape with a 4-1 victory. The final awaits us in the coming weeks.
One remarkable statistic is that Evan has scored a minimum of 3 goals in every match so far this season. Let’s hope he can repeat that form in the final.
