World Book Day

We love books here in St Patrick’s BNS and to celebrate World Book Day, the boys dressed up as their favourite characters from Literature. We encouraged them to make their own costumes and the results were amazing. Special mention too for Mr Kelly and Ms Stack for getting into the spirit of things. Huge thanks are due to Ms Purcell for organising the day. Book tokens were given as prizes to the boys with the best costumes.

Movie Stars

Last year, in conjunction with The Ark Theatre, boys from 5th and 6th class helped write a movie script with Sean, a playwright from Dublin. They also acted in the short film, along with some local elders. The movie, ‘The First was a Boy’, was screened at The Dublin International Film Festival where it received second prize in the Short-Film category. Three of the stars of the movie, Brandon, Reece and Nathan, walked the red carpet and enjoyed being film stars for a day at the screening at The Lighthouse cinema in Smithfield.

Pegasus Cup Result

St Patrick’s BNS 9-0 Mother of Divine Grace, Ballygall.

We kicked off our football season with a comprehensive win in the Pegasus Cup in Irishtown. The game was played in a good spirit and every squad member got plenty of playing time in the spring sunshine.

Our two goalkeepers kept clean sheets. Josh didn’t have much work to do but Calum saved a penalty and its follow-up and watched a second penalty blaze over his crossbar.

Calum J had a great game in defence and also got forward to score a lovely goal. Luke H scored a great hattrick of goals. Other scorers were Jack O’S, Craig, and Daragh B. Murphy scored his first goal for the team as well as being captain. Leon, our 3rd class debutante, capped a fine performance with a goal with the last kick of the match.

There will be a tougher challenges ahead but it was an excellent start to the season. Well done boys.

Bird-Box Building

Mr Booth and Mr O’Rourke supervised a group of boys constructing and painting wooden boxes for birds to nest in. The group then went to Kilakee woods to put the boxes up in the trees there. They found bird-boxes some past-pupils had made around ten years ago and were delighted to see they were still being used by birds to nest in. The boys really enjoyed this project and huge thanks are due to Mr Booth for giving of his time and expertise to bring it to fruition.

Heritage Ireland Visit

First Class eager to contribute to Jonathan and Fionn’s presentation.

We were very lucky to have two special guests from Heritage Ireland visit our school. Jonathan and Fionn, a father and son dynamic duo of nature experts, came in to tell the boys all about the native animals in Ireland. Every class of species was covered on land and in the sea. Thanks to Jonathan and Fionn for an amazing and engaging talk about all of the fascinating creatures in our country.

Christmas Concert

We had our annual Christmas show in Ringsend church on Tuesday evening and it was a lovely occasion. All of the classes sang beautifully but the highlight of the show was the final song, sung by the top-floor boys with the help of some girls from The GNS. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
