Buddy Benches
As part of our Amber Flag Wellbeing initiative, our Parents’ Association, with the help of a local artist, worked together to paint our window ledges which will be used as Buddy Benches. If a child is feeling a bit lonely or has nobody to play with, he can sit on the bench and a friend will see him there and ask him to play with him. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best…..

Soccer Success
Our school football team won every one of their games this season. They topped their league as Champions of City Division D. Well done to all 30 players who lined out for the team throughout the campaign. We are very proud of this fine bunch of footballers who were very sporting and fair to all of their opponents. They scored some fantastic goals along the way.
Art Project about the Poolbeg Stacks
The boys from Mr Fahy’s class recently had an exhibition of their watercolour paintings in the school hall. The project, part of our Creative Ireland work, was curated by artists Heather Gray and Sara. The boys learned about the history of the chimneys, visited the site and photographed them before drawing and then painting them. Their framed paintings were displayed in an innovative and interactive way in the school hall where they were viewed and appreciated by parents and visitors. We were all very impressed by the quality of the paintings.

New Building Latest News
St Patrick’s Girls’ National School and St Patrick’s Boys’ National School submitted a joint proposal to the Department of Education in September 2019 to open 4 special classes; 2 for each school. This proposal involved demolishing the existing PE hall in the back yard and constructing a new build to house the 4 classrooms, sensory areas, PE hall, kitchen and garden facilities. We are delighted that this was approved by the Department of Education in April 2020. Both principals and Board of Managements have been working on this project and to date, all contractors and an architect have been appointed. At present, there are site surveys taking place with the hope that we can then move onto drawing up plans and apply for planning permission. The end date for the project is projected to be autumn 2024.

Science Week Lego Learning
As part of our Science Week activities, we had Bricks4kidz visit our school yesterday and each class got to work on their engineering skills. The boys worked in pairs to create some amazing machines. It was a fantastic day of fun and learning.

The boys spoke. We listened…
As part of our Creative Ireland project we asked the boys what they would like to have in the school to make them enjoy it more. The two things that kept coming up were climbing walls and boxing bags. Let it never be said that we don’t listen to the boys here. They asked and with a little help from others, we delivered.
Ms Sherry purchased some boxing bags and Gary hung them around the school. They can be used under supervision if someone is having a bad day or is frustrated or annoyed about something. They can also be used at break-times. We also hope to have some boxing lessons with Michael Carruth in the New Year.
The second request was for climbing areas in the school. We did our research and found a great Irish company in Galway called smallwall.ie. The Carambola Ltd, our lunch company, allowed us to use our loyalty fund with them to purchase 20 traversing boards for the school which were installed over the Hallowe’en Mid-term break. The boys have been having great fun working on their climbing and traversing skills on them.
